Murrayville officially became a club in 1970/71 and joined the Mallee International Rules Basketball Association, along with Pinnaroo, Lameroo and Parilla. All matches at the time were played at Pinnaroo and in the 1972/73 season, the MBC raised funds to equip their own courts and install lights.

Rachael Sporn commenced playing at the age of nine in 1977 and continued to play for Murrayville until 1986 when she moved to Adelaide. She has gone onto represent Australia as a member of the ‘Opals’ at the 1996 Atlanta, 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Olympic Games, winning a bronze and two medals respectively.

The Murrayville Basketball Club still fields a ladies and gent’s team in the association, called the ‘Allstars’ and have achieved many premierships over the years.  We also have a Primary and Secondary team for season 2013/14.

We believe that sport has always been an important part of our life in Murrayville and is one of the main social fabrics that keeps our community together. The following clubs rely heavily on the work of volunteers to give our residents a favourite pastime to play all throughout the year.
